HyNet Hydrogen Production Plant – the UK’s first large-scale low carbon hydrogen facility

Last week, we ran a virtual ‘knowledge transfer’ event to share information as to how we have designed and developed the HyNet Hydrogen Production Plant.  More than 500 registered to view the webinar which aimed to give interested parties from across the public and private sector an insight in to the intelligence gained and lessons learnt whilst progressing the first low carbon hydrogen production plant in the UK.

Low carbon hydrogen is set to play a major role in achieving ‘net zero emissions’ across the UK by 2050. HyNet, centred in the North West of England and North East Wales, combines fuel switching to low carbon hydrogen and the capturing and storing of CO2 (CCS).  This delivers large scale, deliverable and cost-effective decarbonisation across a large variety of sectors.

HyNet will enable low carbon hydrogen to be supplied to industrial, power, transport and domestic and commercial gas customers to enable them to reduce their carbon emissions.  Already, an impressive number of energy intensive industrials and power generators who want to switch from a carbon-based fuel to low carbon hydrogen have signed up to use HyNet hydrogen. Many of these are household names who have already invested heavily in improving process efficiency. Conversion to hydrogen is the only remaining practical solution for them to meet their carbon reduction obligations.
