India investigating hydrogen-powered vehicles in a bid to decarbonise mobility

In a first-of-its-kind project in India, the country’s largest power utility NTPC is inviting global Expressions of Interest to develop hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles in a bid to decarbonise mobility.

NTPC wants to deploy ten hydrogen-powered buses and ten hydrogen-powered cars in Leh and Delhi.

The initiative, undertaken with support from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, will also harness renewable energy for generation of hydrogen and develop storage and dispensation facilities as part of pilot projects at Leh and Delhi.
