INNIO to support RAG Austria’s CHP plant with hydrogen technology

INNIO Group has announced it will deliver its Jenbacher hydrogen engine technology to RAG Austria to power its hydrogen cogeneration plant in Gampern, Upper Austria.

The project will see the ‘world’s first’ 100% hydrogen storage facility in a porous underground reservoir – RAG’s ‘Underground Sun Storage’, boasting up to 4.2GWh of electricity produced in summer and stored for winter in the form of green hydrogen.

The commissioned Jenbacher combined heat and power plant (CHP) will generate green power and heat utilising its 1MW range and is expected to enter operations in Spring 2024.
