Ireland and Germany to cooperate on green hydrogen under new agreement

Ireland and Germany have signed a joint declaration to cooperate on green hydrogen.

Signed between the Irish Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and the German Federal Research Ministry, on Tuesday (May 31), the declaration comes as the Irish Government develops its national hydrogen strategy.

Recent analysis from Aurora Energy Research suggest that Ireland could produce the “cheapest” hydrogen in Europe by 2030, saying that production under optimal conditions would result in a levelised cost of €3.50/kg ($3.74) of hydrogen in 2030, 8% lower than optimal costs in Spain and 35% lower than in Germany.
