Keppel and ExxonMobil to explore low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia solutions in Singapore

Keppel Infrastructure and ExxonMobil Asia Pacific are looking to develop access to low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia for commercial and industrial applications in Singapore.

Under the Singaporean Government’s National Hydrogen Strategy, released in October 2022, the Energy Market Authority and Maritime and Port Authority issued an expression of interest in December for proposals to build, own and operate low- or zero-carbon power generation and bunkering facilities on Jurong Island.

The new Keppel-ExxonMobil collaboration is hoped to address that call and support Jurong Island’s sustainability goals and Singapore’s wider hydrogen strategy, which predicted that hydrogen could meet up to half the country’s power needs by 2050.

Keppel has already been making significant hydrogen investments in the Asian country. In August last year (2022), its energy business, in partnership with Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific and Jurong Engineering, announced it had made the final investment decision (FID) to develop a 600MW hydrogen-ready power plant.
