Liverpool set for state-of-the-art hydrogen buses

A new project is seeking to bring 20 state-of-the-art hydrogen-powered double decker buses to the streets of the Liverpool City Region in the UK.

The plans are expected to be approved at a combined authority meeting this week (19th March) and would also see the first hydrogen refuelling facilities in the North West region developed.

Construction of the hydrogen refuelling facilities is expected to begin later in the year.

Funded by the Combined Authority, a group of two or more councils that are able to take collective decisions across council boundaries, it has been confirmed the hydrogen-powered vehicles will be, much like the Merseyrail network, owned by the people of the Liverpool City Region.
