Mariya Gabriel: Robust public and private investment is needed for a climate neutral Europe

The Global Energy and Climate Outlook’s report which identifies hydrogen as an essential element in low carbon energy systems, with a key role in transport fuels and energy intensive industries, was today recognised at European Hydrogen Week.

Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth this afternoon spoke about hydrogen’s key role and the necessary research that is required in order to pursue a clean energy future.

“The decarbonising of our society and industry to achieve a climate neutral Europe by 2050 requires robust public and private investment,” she told attendees.

“Hydrogen, both as a source of energy and the storage medium, will play a crucial role in the green transition, providing a strategic opportunity to decarbonise energy intensive industries, but also for transportation and manufacturing.”
