As part of its ambitions to establish hydrogen-based steel production in the Netherlands, Tata Steel has selected McDermott International to aid in the shaping and management of the project.
Dubbed Heracless (hydrogen era, carbonless), the project is focused on the implementation of direct reduced iron plant (DRP) and reducing electrical furnace (REF) technology at Tata Steel’s facilities in IJmuiden, 19 miles (30km) east of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Appointed to Tata’s Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT), McDermott will work with the company and its suppliers including Danieli and Hatch. H2 View understands work on the project will be carried out from McDermott’s centre of excellence in the Hague, and Tata’s IJmuiden site.
