MHI eyes hydrogen tests on six-cylinder engine generator

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has completed the construction of a hydrogen-powered engine generator ahead of in-house testing in Japan.

The six-cylinder 500kW engine will receive high-pressure hydrogen for the trial, where MHI’s Engine & Turbocharger business (MHIET) hopes to confirm stability at 100% load while running on hydrogen within the fiscal year.

Initially, trials will see the engine run on Japan’s city gas ahead of the pure green hydrogen tests.
