Neste granted €1.96m to explore excess electrolysis heat for district heating

The Finnish Government has granted oil refiner Neste €1.96m ($2.15m) to explore heat recovery from its planned 120MW green hydrogen production system at its Porvoo refinery for use in the local district heating network.

Neste and Porvoon Energia – which has also received a grant – have initiated a study on heat recovery and utilisation in the City of Porvoo’s district heating network.

If feasible, the study could pave the way for Neste to recover excess heat from the six 20MW thyssenkrupp nucera electrolyser, planned to be installed at the refinery.
