New UK Energy Secretary named days before Energy Bill re-enters Parliament

Claire Coutinho has been named as the UK Government’s new Secretary for Energy Security and Net Zero after Grant Shapps was today (August 31) appointed Defence Secretary.

Previously the Under Secretary for Education, Coutinho will now head up the government’s policy decisions related to energy and Net Zero.

The position changes come just a matter of days before the anticipated Energy Bill re-enters Parliament on September 5, 2023, with amendments that could change the way the hydrogen industry is funded.
