NPTC kicks off Indian hydrogen blending project

Indian state-owned power company, NTPC on Tuesday (January 3) announced it had started blending green hydrogen into a piped natural gas (PNG) network at Kawas in Surat, Gujarat.

In a LinkedIn post, the company claimed that the project was a ‘first’ for India and is hoped to demonstrate the potential of using blended hydrogen to decarbonise residential areas.

According to the Economic Times, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) approved 5% blending of green hydrogen with PNG for the project, with potential for the blending level to be raised up to 20% in the future.
