PGM partnership explores palladium use in hydrogen to secure future demand

Heraeus Precious Metals and Sibanye-Stillwater are exploring palladium’s use in hydrogen applications, such as purification and carrier cracking, to secure future precious metal demand streams.

Under the partnership, the pair will explore how existing and new applications could utilise the platinum group metal (PGM) to develop alternative markets for palladium while support hydrogen sector and technical developments.

They said palladium has a “very high selectivity” for hydrogen and can be used in an array of applications.
