Piasecki awarded $37m to demonstrate hydrogen aviation technologies

Piasecki Aircraft Corporation has been awarded a $37m multi-year contract by the US Air Force to demonstrate hydrogen propulsion technologies.

The Air Force’s innovation arm ARWERX awarded the funding in conjunction with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), as part of its Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) programme.

The award will enable Piasecki to demonstrate its Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded Systems (ARES) tilt-duct vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial system (UAS), along with hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technologies for VTOL and other aviation applications.
