Plans for $4bn green hydrogen-based e-fuels project in Uruguay revealed

Uruguay is set to develop a $4bn green hydrogen-based synthetic gasoline project with HIF Global.

Uruguayan state-owned oil and gas company ANCAP has said the project in Paysandú, Uruguay, plans to produce 180,000 tonnes of e-gasoline per year from 100,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and the capture of 710,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the combustion of biomass and methanol.

Set to be carried out with HIF Global and ALUR, 1GW of alkaline electrolysis and 2GW of renewable energy will power the production of the synthetic gasoline.
