Port of Vancouver crane to be converted to run on hydrogen

Manufacturing and engineering firm TYCROP and Loop Energy has been selected to provide hydrogen-electric solutions to decarbonise a rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) at the Port of Vancouver, Canada.

The crane, owned by DP World, will be fitted with a TYCROP dual fuel system powered by two Loop Energy T505 fuel cell systems, allowing it to run on hydrogen while in operation at the Canadian port.

With the pilot expected to begin in Q2 2024, the retrofitted crane will run on hydrogen supplied by HTEC.
