px Group acquires majority stake in German hydrogen specialists Lifte H2

To accelerate its growth ambitions in the European hydrogen industry, px Group has acquired a majority stake in Lifte H2.

The operator of several UK and European infrastructure sites wants to build upon its current operating activities in Norway and planned initiatives in the Netherlands, Germany and the Nordics.

Lifte H2, the German “one-stop shop for hydrogen engineering solutions,” was designed to guide customers through every phase of their hydrogen transition. Lifte executives and engineers bring extensive expertise in hydrogen technology, having previously worked for Shell, Uniper, RWE, Siemens Energy and TÜD SÜD.

Lifte maintains roles within industry bodies such as the Clean Energy Partnership, Hydrogen Europe, Deutsches Institut für Normung, and Clean Port & Logistics. Through the acquisition, the two companies will bolster the engineering team with px Group’s expertise and bring Lifte’s development knowledge to the UK to accelerate the applications of hydrogen.

Murat Aydemir, px Group’s Managing Director for Germany, said, “Germany has one of the most – if not the most – developed hydrogen economies in Europe and is a leader in hydrogen transport infrastructure.

“However, the barriers to entry for hydrogen in Europe remain too high right across the value chain and right across the continent, Lifte H2’s solution, which directly enables more investment into hydrogen, is compelling and proven.”

px Group’s CEO, Geoff Holmes, explained that Lifte’s commitment to safe, simple and affordable solutions “fits closely with px Group’s commitments.”

Paul Karzel, Managing Director at Lifte H2, added, “With px Group’s experience in designing, operating and maintaining large process plants, and Lifte H2’s in-depth hydrogen expertise, we form a dynamic alliance that will invigorate the hydrogen industry.”

Last September (2023), Lifte announced it was turning its focus to Europe after one of the company’s co-founders acquired the firm and sold its US operations.

Following the buyout and before px Group’s acquisition, Karzel became the 100% owner and Lifte’s US operations went to Powertech Labs.
