Queensland passes legislation to allow hydrogen’s use in pipelines

Queensland has passed legislation that will allow renewable hydrogen to be piped across the Australian state.

The Gas Supply and Other Legislation (Hydrogen Industry Development) Amendment Bill 2023 passed in the Queensland Parliament with its backers saying it would unlock 10,000 jobs and AUD $33bn ($21.2bn) in economic activity by 2040.

Allowing renewable hydrogen and gases to be piped across Queensland and to trade partners, the Bill is hoped to ensure growth in the emerging hydrogen industry within the state and offer environmental benefits.
