Salt structures for large-scale hydrogen storage identified in Newfoundland

Vortex Energy Corporation has said it has identified two large salt structures suitable for hydrogen storage in Newfoundland, Canada, each exceeding a storage volume of over two million metres3.

The company, along with its consultant partners, has completed an analysis of 2D seismic interpretation on the Robinsons River Salt Project in Newfoundland, locating at least two salt structures for prospective halite exploration, the mineral form of sodium chloride, which could be suitable for hydrogen salt dome cavern development.

According to Vortex, the structure and composition of the structures make them ideal for storing large quantities of hydrogen gas safely and efficiency, located in proximity to major industrial centres and potential hydrogen production sites.
