Samsung Engineering to start FEED on 150,000-tonne Malaysian green hydrogen project

South Korea’s Samsung Engineering is set to carry out front-end engineering design (FEED) work for a 150,000 tonne-per-year green hydrogen project in Sarawak, Malaysia.

The H2Biscus project, currently being explored by Lotte Chemical and Korea National Oil Corporation and Malaysia’s SEDC Energy (Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy), plans to produce 150,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for conversion to 850,000 of green ammonia.

Samsung plans to decide on a hydrogen production method using both PEM and alkaline electrolysis technologies to optimise efficiency and economic feasibility.

With FEED expected to be completed in 2024, a final investment decision (FID) is set to be made at the end of next year. Once FID is approved, EPC is anticipated to begin in early 2025, with commercial hydrogen production scheduled for early 2028.
