SINEWAVE project boosted by €1.9m funding grant

Germany’s SINEWAVE project, which aims to close research gaps in the series production of electrolysis systems for green hydrogen production, is set to be boosted with €1.9m ($2.1m).

ITM Power today (Jan 10) confirmed that is has been approved for the German federal funding that will help to advance the research project and contribute to country’s decarbonisation goals.

Specifically, ITM Power hopes to educate and train experts in the field of installation, maintenance and operation of large-scale electrolysers, developing live monitoring and reporting of electrolyser systems, development a robust supply chain for large scale deployments and more.

Through these contributions, ITM Power will help the SINEWAVE project better understand electrolyser systems to produce large quantities of green hydrogen – and in a cost-effective way.

Dr Graham Cooley, CEO of ITM Power, said, “Our German subsidiary and its management team has embedded itself in that country’s hydrogen discussions and debates. Our participation in the federally funded SINEWAVE project provides an endorsement of our place in Germany’s hydrogen strategy. I congratulate the team at ITM Power GmbH.”

The UK-based firm, however, is not alone in the project and is also working with Linde, ITM Linde Electrolysis, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf, Institute of Fluid Dynamics, Technical University of Dresden, Institute of Process Engineering and Environmental Technology and Technical University of Munich, Institute of Plant and Process Technology.

The SINEWAVE project will run until 2025.
