Sinopec completes construction of 20,000 tonne-per-year hydrogen project

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has completed the construction of the ‘largest’ photovoltaic green hydrogen production project in China, capable of producing 20,000 tonnes of hydrogen a year.

The Sinopec Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Pilot Project will produce hydrogen to supply Sinopec Tahe Petrochemical and replace the natural gas and fossil fuel energy used in hydrogen production.

The project will utilise Xinjiang’s abundant solar resources, implementing a electrolysed 20,000 tonne water hydrogen plant, a spherical hydrogen storage tank with a storage capacity of 210,000 cubic metres, and a hydrogen transmission pipeline with a capacity of 28,000 cubic metre per hour.
