In further developments in its progress towards hydrogen, Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) has said it has successfully tested its microgrid demonstration project, the “[H2] Innovation Experience” in Downey, California, US, using hydrogen produced on site.
According to SoCalGas, the demonstration features a 2,000 sq.ft home that can use reliable and clean hydrogen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by drawing power from solar panels, converting excess energy into renewable hydrogen, which is stored and then converted back into electricity when needed via an on-site fuel cell.
