SSE Thermal acquires 50% stake in H2NorthEast blue hydrogen project

Kellas Midstream and SSE Thermal have formed a joint venture (JV) as part of the H2NorthEast, Kellas’ blue hydrogen project on Teesside, UK.

The JV will ensure SSE has a 50% share in the project, bringing its knowledge and experience in low carbon infrastructure development in renewables, networks and flexible power generation.

The hydrogen production facility, utilising carbon capture and storage, is expected to support the hydrogen economy in the Tees Valley. The agreement between the two companies is for an initial consideration of £10m ($12.5m) to Kellas Midstream, with further consideration due should the project reach a financial investment decision (FID).
