Swiss police force trials hydrogen vehicles

Zürcher Kantonspolizei, the police force operating in Zürich in Switzerland, has started testing hydrogen-powered Hyundai Nexo patrol vehicles.

The testing of the vehicles is aligned with the vehicle fleet sustainability strategy, launched in Zurich Canton Police back in 2003 in order to reduce the forces’ carbon emissions.

In order to reduce its emissions, the force has already tested an array of alternative drive vehicles. By the end of 2020, the force hopes to have approximately 17.9% of its vehicles as alternative drive vehicles.

Hydrogen vehicles are becoming more and more common with the police. Last month, H2 View reported that the Osnabrück Police Force in Germany had added a Hyundai Nexo to its fleet.
