Taiwan: First fuel cell bus system set for 2022

Advantech and Taiwan based Tsai Ying Clean Energy Co. Ltd. (TYCE) are set to cooperate to develop the first ‘made in Taiwan’ hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) ‘management system’.

H2 View understands that Advantech will incorporate software and hardware features such as AI-based fleet safety to improve the ‘safety and efficiency’ of FCEBs. Both companies are expecting to complete the first hydrogen FCEB management system by the end of 2022.

Advantech and TYCE have also announced that they will explore domestic and international markets for the system.

MC Chiang, Vice-President at Advantech’s Service IoT Group, said, “Advantech is dedicated to becoming an active supporter of a sustainable planet through our sustainable acts and policies.

“In addition to actively setting goals for green operations, environmental management, and greenhouse gas emissions in recent years, we strive to provide solutions in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

The announcement comes after the Taiwan government pledged to reduce its carbon emissions and reach Net Zero by 2050, in February this year, following the international consensus to tackle climate issues.

Eagle Cheng, Chairman at Tsai Ying Clean Energy, commented, “The team has concluded that hydrogen FCEBs are the ultimate products for large public bus product lines.

“This cooperation with Advantech is not only for jointly developing the first hydrogen FCEB management system suitable for operation in Taiwan, but also hopes to mobilise Advantech’s global network for the promotion of hydrogen FCEBs.

“Moreover, this cooperation will raise the self-sufficiency rate of hydrogen FCEBs in Taiwan and improve both companies’ international competitiveness.”
