Topsoe to provide Approtium with ammonia cracking technology

Topsoe has signed an engineering agreement with Approtium to convert low-carbon ammonia into hydrogen using its technology.

The ammonia cracking H2RETAKE™ technology will support the production of 75,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen annually.

Located in Ulsan, South Korea, the facility will support the country’s aim to increase co-firing in the power generation sector, expected to begin production in 2027.

H2RETAKE™ is anticipated to have an energy efficiency of 96%, using off-gases as fuel for the endothermic reaction, enhancing its overall efficiency when converting ammonia into high-purity hydrogen.
