US hydrogen players call for ‘pragmatic’ guidance on IRA tax credit

Key players in the US hydrogen industry have called for “pragmatic, forward-looking” guidance on the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) tax credits for clean hydrogen production, in a letter to Biden Administration officials.

In the letter, the heads of the US Chamber of Commerce, the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association, Plug Power, Accelera by Cummins, Air Water, Chart Industries and more have warned against “overly restrictive proposals for hourly matching, additionality and deliverability.”

It comes after the European Commission last month (June 2023) formerly adopted two delegated acts defining ‘renewable’ or clean hydrogen, setting criteria for electricity supply to electrolysers and providing methodology for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculations.
