VCR to receive 90MW PEM electrolyser system for waste-to-methanol plant

Varennes Carbon Recycling (VCR) is receiving a 90MW Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser system from Accelera by Cummins.

The system will comprise four HyLYZER®-5000s, each utilising 25MW of electricity and producing up to 10 tonnes of hydrogen per day.  

VCR is a consortium that includes Shell, Suncor and Proman, with the support of the Canadian and Quebec Governments. The biorefinery, powered by a waste-to-methanol technology platform developed by Enerkem, is scheduled to be operational in 2025.
