Westport Fuel Systems has announced it will adapt its hydrogen HPDI™ fuel system in an agreement with a provider of locomotives and related equipment for the rail industry.
Westport will integrate its HPDI system into the unnamed OEM’s engine design, part of a two-year hydrogen HPDI proof of concept project expected to begin immediately and fully funded by the OEM.
It will be the first time one of Westport’s hydrogen HPDI systems have been utilised for a locomotive application, which will require large capital investments in equipment that is needed to perform in demanding, isolated and harsh environments.
