Women in Hydrogen: Anna Murray

This story is part of H2 View’s monthly Women in Hydrogen series, created in partnership with the Women in Green Hydrogen (WiGH) network, which profiles women in the hydrogen industry. This month’s interview is with Anna Murray, PEM Technology Product Platform Manager at Cummins.

Anna, you’ve been working in the hydrogen industry since 2012. What drew you to hydrogen? And what makes you so passionate about it to have stayed for nearly 10 years?

The honest truth is I had no idea what I was getting into back in 2012. Hydrogen was not really a known thing – very, very different than it is today. I just thought that the job looked interesting, and it was a programme management lead role at that time. I was aware of fuel cells from my previous job – in that I had done some blower controllers for fuel cell applications, so I knew what they were in theory – but I really had no idea what I was getting myself into.

What’s kept me interested is unlike a lot of emerging technologies, the more I learnt, the more convinced I became that this is real. It’s not smoke and mirrors. There’s really something exciting happening here. And that’s what’s kept me in it for 10 years. Honestly, I see myself probably being in hydrogen for the rest of my career at this point. It’s a very exciting world we’re working in.
