zepp.solutions fuel cell systems used in hydrogen-powered excavator conversion

Dutch-based zepp.solutions’ hydrogen storage and fuel cell systems have been used to convert two Liebherr 916 Litronic wheeled excavators from diesel to hydrogen-electric by vehicle modifier Terberg Techniek.

The two excavators, owned by Dutch contracting firm Jos Scholman, are said to have undergone six months of operational testing, which zepp.solutions has said show the hydrogen retrofitted vehicles are “reliable and perform as expected.”

Offering a zero carbon emission alternative to diesel, the integration of its Y50 fuel cell systems come as a construction vehicle first for zepp, following on various deployments across mobility uses.
