US-based FuelCell Energy (FCE) is exploring the integration of its solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) platform with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s (KHNP) nuclear power plants in South Korea for hydrogen production.
Promised to be a “fundamental redesign” of its previous pressurised alkaline system, Nel says the next generation will have higher efficiency to reduce OPEX and shorter response times for pairing with renewables.
“The first hydrogen pipelines of the core network will go into operation as early as next year, and will then be built up gradually until the target year of 2032.”
