Atco Mining identifies salt structure for potential hydrogen storage

Canadian-based Atco Mining Inc. has today (August 31) said it has identified at least one salt structure that could be suitable for hydrogen storage in southwest Newfoundland, Canada.

Atco’s contracted consultant partner, RESPEC Consulting, completed analysis on 2D seismic interpretation of Atco’s Flat Bay Salt Project, where it has now located “at least one salt structure prospective for halite exploration,” that is potentially suitable for hydrogen salt dome cavern development.

According to the companies, the gravity and 2D seismic data show the potential presence of a salt structure within the project boundary, with a maximum thickness of around 1,700 metres.
