Ford F-MAX trucks to be equipped with Ballard fuel cells for European project

Ballard Power Systems has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Ford Trucks to supply a fuel cell system as part of the development of Ford’s hydrogen-powered vehicle prototype.

Ford Trucks plans to use two of Ballard’s FCmove™ XD 120kW fuel cell engines in its F-MAX 44-tonne long-haul tractor truck, as it plans to build and assemble the vehicles in Turkey ahead of European demonstrations in 2025.

With plans for the fuel cells to be delivered to Ford in 2023, if the development programme and other conditions prove successful, Ballard could be named as the preferred supplier for the serial production of the hydrogen fuel cell powered F-MAX.
