Sierra Northern Railway to convert three more locomotives to hydrogen

Sierra Northern Railway (SERA) has to receive California State Transportation Authority funding to convert three diesel switcher locomotives to hydrogen.

The award builds on a 2021 grant from the California Energy Commission to undertake a first-generation hydrogen-fuelled switcher locomotive where SERA was retiring an older tier 0 diesel locomotive to be replaced with a hydrogen-powered variant.
